Directed by Sebastian Thiel Upshot Reels are directed by Sebastian Thiel, an award-winning writer/director whose credits include Supacell (Netflix), Dreaming Whilst Black (A24, BBC, Showtime), Riches (Amazon, ITV) and Fightland (Starz / Sky).Born in Zambia and raised in North-West London, Sebastian founded Upshot Entertainment as a teenager, building an early following with self-produced work that drew over 13 million views online before his 2014 TV debut.
He went on to create the BBC Three comedy Just a Couple, direct the International Emmy-nominated Dreaming Whilst Black, and most recently direct three episodes of Netflix's global number-one show Supacell. Along the way he's been named on the BBC's Hotlist for New Talent, the Evening Standard's Top 25 Under 25 most influential Londoners, and Broadcast magazine's Hot Shots.
With over ten years directing reels and a career built inside real TV filmmaking, Sebastian brings genuine directorial instinct to every session, and a real passion for unlocking the performance that gets you noticed.
FROM bedroom to hollywood Upshot Reels began in 2010 as a private service for Identity Agency Group talent. Sebastian was 20, filming reels in his bedroom for actors who needed something that captured them properly. As word spread, the operation moved into the IDSA studios, where some of the most iconic early reels were shot, reels that helped propel talent all the way to Hollywood.In 2017, Sebastian opened the doors and Upshot Reels became a service available to everyone. Today he balances directing reels around his television work, driven by the same thing that started it all: a passion for helping actors unlock their best performances, discovering new talent for his own projects, and building a community of like-minded people who take the craft seriously.
